GEOGRAPHER Cafe, discovered on an express tour along Jonker Street, Malacca, was a welcome sight after a sweaty walk beneath a merciless afternoon sun.

This charming, romantic corner-lot cafe, more than 100 years old, tugs at the attention of passersby with its cool, gracious pre-war set up. Strategically located in the heart of Chinatown, visitors and seasoned travelers have the perfect opportunity to quench their thirst and sate their hunger as well as watch the hustle and bustle along Malacca's Heritage Trail.

Geographer Cafe has an irresistible allure, be it day or night. Inside, you will notice the many maps (old and new) from all over the world displayed everywhere. This combined with its image as a meeting place for international tourists, the name "Geographer Cafe" indeed befits.

Set in a shade of warm and cheery mustard colours and decorated with rustic appeal, the cafe is cool and romantic even on a hot afternoon. Up the wooden stairs are two computer terminals for those who wish to surf the Net or check their mail. It is the only Internet service available on Jonker Street area.

The cafe charges RM6 per hour and service is available from 11am till closing. Closed only on Tuesdays, the outlet's business hours are from 11am to 1am, Happy hours 11am to 9.30 pm. A live band entertains patrons every Wednesday to Sundays, 9pm to 1am.

As for food, the emphasis is on local dishes but selected Western dishes are available. House speciality is organic nasi lemak (with unpolished rice) and Straits of Malacca salad served with peanut sauce. Beverages too are a boon for the health conscious: organic coffee, organic cucumber juice and organic aurora. White/red wine from Italy is also available.

Fixed annual events include Christmas Eve Party, New Year's Eve Bash, Chinese New Year celebrations and Salem Crawl Nite.

Sale of Geographer Cafe souvenirs include caps, T-shirts, key chains, card holders all at affordable prices.
